Practical guide
Keep your stereo, add streaming.
If your amplifier and speakers still work, add a network streamer to an unused line-level input instead of replacing the whole system. Choose a streamer whose output matches your amplifier—usually stereo RCA—and whose app or casting method supports the services you actually use.
When this answer applies
- Your amplifier has an unused AUX, CD, TAPE, or other line-level input
- You want phone control without making the phone the permanent audio link
- You can place the streamer where Wi-Fi is reliable or use Ethernet when the model provides it
Do it in this order
- List the amplifier’s free inputs. Do not use PHONO for a standard line-level streamer.
- Choose the control method first: direct service control, AirPlay, a vendor app, DLNA, or another method documented for the model.
- Connect the streamer’s analog output to a line input, then select that input on the amplifier.
- Set a safe volume strategy. If the streamer offers fixed and variable output, use fixed output only when the amplifier controls volume.
- Test one room before buying more units. Add grouped rooms only inside a confirmed compatible ecosystem.
Limits to know
- A streamer cannot power passive speakers unless it includes a speaker amplifier.
- Not every service is available on every firmware, region, or control method.
- Wi-Fi quality, router placement, and mixed network bands can affect setup and grouping.
